How does a tattoo laser work?

With a tattoo laser we can pulverize tattoo ink in the skin in a very specific and targeted way. The shorter the pulse duration the less tissue damage occurs in the surrounding skin.

Is tattoo laser removal painful?

The treatment can be sensitive or even painful; the experience varies from person to person. It feels as if someone is pressing against your skin with a rubber band or like short pinholes in your skin. However, the post-operative pain is short-lived, no more than 15 minutes. When a larger area is treated the after pain resembles a sunburn which can sometimes last for several hours.

What do you see in the skin during treatment?

The treated area first turns white. This is a sign that the tattoo ink is being pulverized. At the same time or a few minutes after this, redness and swelling occur which disappear after 30 to 60 minutes.
In a few cases, small pinpoint bleeding may occur. These bleedings are harmless and heal quickly.
Sometimes small blisters also form at the site of the treated skin. These contain clear tissue fluid. The blisters will dry up on their own and form a crust. It is better not to puncture them.
